As I look back on the semester, I am proud of my accomplishments. Transitions and changes are never easy, but I had a successful experience overall. One consistent academic challenge during the past semester was listening to difficult lectures. My health psychology class always had various lecturers teaching and I found them hard to follow, sometimes hard to hear, and jam-packed with information. It was necessary to learn the information despite the challenge. I was able to solve my problem by accessing the powerpoint on Sakai. I could compare the powerpoint with my notes and use class readings to study as well as use pages on my laptop to organize notes easily onto one document.
Since high school, I have adopted a new learning strategy that has proven helpful in studying for tests. In high school, I used to wait until the last minute to study for exams, which resulted in late night studying and cramming for the next day. I realized that by studying in advance I remember more and am able to convert information into my long-term memory. It’s refreshing to have the ability to remember information I studied weeks past. I plan on using this learning strategy in the future because it is helping me focus on being more of a deep learner than a strategic learner.
If I review my notes on a consistent basis, I can become even more of a deep learner. Instead of just organizing my notes in the documents potion of my computer and the notes app as I have been doing, I plan on using Evernote in the future. I did not know a lot about Evernote coming into the class, but I found the class notes section very useful as well as my page with summaries from A Hope in the Unseen. I realized that Evernote is a useful and practical application that promotes learning. I would like to be more organized with my notes moving forward in the future, and I could create Evernote pages for all of my classes if possible. That way I could review new information from all of my classes. I would not have to worry about anything getting lost and notes would be accessible. I’m glad that this class teaches students new ways to learn because everybody learns new things throughout their lives.
